United States: Southern Nevada has seen a rise in West Nile virus cases, with at least five  people now infected with the mosquitoes bite. The Southern Nevada Health District reports a huge increase in mosquitoes carrying the virus this year, with 268 mosquito samples testing positive compared to just 14 samples in 2023.

Health District Issues Alert to Hospitals

To stay safe, use bug spray and avoid being outside during peak mosquito times, these times are generally from dusk to dawn and  for more knowledge and information visit the Southern Nevada Health District’s website or contact your local health department.

As last reported on 26th of June the health district was reporting the two recent cases of the West Nile in the Clark County’s people.

New Map Helps Track Virus Activity

The Southern Nevada Health District has sent a special and important alert to local hospitals because there are more cases of West Nile virus than the ordinary. They want hospitals to keep a close eye on the virus and consider testing people for it if doctors think it might be the cause of their illness.

Stay Safe: Use Bug Spray and Avoid Peak Times

This alert is important because there are a lot of mosquitoes carrying the virus this year, which is the highest level of activity the mosquito program has ever seen at this time of year.

You can use bug spray to avoid the situation because it can get worse by the time and you wouldn’t be able to bear the consequences of this virus. Though any repellent would also make you protect from the war of the mosquitoes.

In the past times  the health district was able to  control the number of mosquitoes with the virus, but this year is so  different and as it can be seen that the number of cases increase 19 times as of the last year. To help people stay informed, they have created a special map that shows if mosquitoes in your neighbourhood have tested positive for the West Nile virus.

You can check this particular  map to see if there is a higher risk of getting the virus where you live. The map can be found on the Southern Nevada Health District’s website. It is a good idea to use bug spray and avoid being outside during peak mosquito times to protect yourself from the virus.

The report also lists 15 mosquito samples tested positive for St. Louis encephalitis.
